Workers cost an average of $28.03 an hour

In a recently released U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report, U.S. employers paid on average $28/03 an hour in wages and benefits.  Wages and salaries averaged $19.56 an hour, or 69.8% of costs.  Mandated federal and local employer paid taxes along with benefits averaged $8.47 for 30.2%.

Did You Know...?

Last year, Dice Holdings Inc. (NYSE: DHX) released an annual survey of more than 19,000 technology professionals.  The survey found that salaries rose 1.7% last year to $74,570.  This is a smaller percentage than the 5.2% in 2006.

The largest gains were posted by IT contractors.  Full-time IT worker’s salaries rose 1.7% to an average of $72,003, while contractors rose 3.7% in 2007 for an average salary of $93,017.

“While technology professionals experienced overall slower salary growth in 2007 than in 2006, the traditional technology hot beds of Silicon Valley, Boston, and Atlanta saw better than average salary growth, and IT managers saw strong salary increases,” Dice President and CEO Scot Melland said.  “Technology workers remain among the highest paid employees, especially those with management experience and hard-to-find skills.”
